The Grand Canyon is a massive canyon in Arizona. The National Park Service estimates that over 4 million people visit the Grand Canyon every year.

Speaking from first hand experience - pictures just don't do it justice. There's no way to really capture the sheer magnitude of the Grand Canyon. If you want to truly understand the beauty that millions upon millions of people have been in awe of for thousands of years...you need to go visit this place!

2. Teddy Roosevelt wanted every American to see it

"The Grand Canyon fills me with awe. It is beyond comparison - beyond description; absolutely unparalleled throughout the wide world...let this great wonder of nature remain as it now is. Do nothing to mar its grandeur, sublimity, and loneliness. You cannot improve on it. But what you can do is to keep it for your children, your children's children, and all who come after you, as the one great sight which every American should see."

-Teddy Roosevelt (1903)

3. It's an official UNESCO world heritage site

Countries from all over the world have decided this is a site worthy of preservation because of cultural, historical, or scientific significance. In other words, this site tells a story that has been deemed important enough for the world to remember for generations to come! Only a handful of places in the U.S. have been given this honor, and this is one of them. Go check it out!

4. Lots of Adventures

If you want to break out your adventuresome self - the Grand Canyon offers all kinds of ways to explore! From hiking, to mule rides, to white water, rafting, to kayaking, to helicopter/airplane rides, the sky is literally the limit...you sure won't be bored. You can plan on day adventures, overnight camping, or even weak long journeys! When my family visited - we did a little bit of everything. I've said it before, and I will say it again. If you go to a National Park and you are bored - you're doing it wrong.

Fun Fact: mule rides down into the canyon have been offered since 1887! You can literally experience the same thing people did over 130 years ago!

5. It's 1 of the 7 natural wonders of the world

All I'm sayin' is that there are only seven places on this list...in the entire world. That's a pretty impressive honor right there. If you make a trip somewhere, why not go to a place that garners that type of awe from the world?
